Format Wars Concluded

It has been two years since the battle began on which technology to use for High Definition DVD. It ended when Toshiba favoured Blue Ray and although it still supports HD DVD players it will end production this March. Sony started with blue ray players which made clear the real winner. Movie industry giant Warner Brothers and Wal-Mart also recently choose blue ray.

Both HD-DVD and Blue Ray formats give the same picture quality but both are not compatible with each other. This means that consumers need to choose on a costly decision between the two since both players are about $400 each. More households now own high definition televisions and demand for content is high. The advantage is that your old DVDs can still be played on blue ray players, the quality just got better.
